Child Protection Policy

Summary

Sligo Jazz Project (SJP) takes seriously its responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of children and young people participating in any activities or projects arranged by SJP.

SJP is committed to:

•  Listening to, valuing and relating effectively with children

•  Ensuring the protection of children, young people while participating in SJP activities

•  Encouraging and supporting artists, teachers, parents and carers

•  Ensuring employees, artists and volunteers are given appropriate support and training

•  Ensuring there is a confidential system for dealing with concerns about possible abuse.

The Child Protection Policy outlines the procedures and standards expected by SJP and are subject to periodic review. The Policy is consistent with Children First: National Guidelines for the Protection and Welfare of Children and the Guidelines as set out by the Arts Council of Ireland.

Sligo Jazz Project has set out agreed guidelines relating to the following areas:

•  Appropriate recruitment, training and management/supervision of employees and artists

•  Providing guidance on appropriate behaviour around children and what to do if physical, sexual or mental abuse is suspected. 

•  Supervision of activities involving children

•  Reporting and responding to allegations of abuse

Each person appointed by Sligo Jazz Project to work with children will receive a copy of the Policy. This summary of the Policy will be displayed in one or more prominent place(s) to facilitate awareness of the Policy's existence. A copy of the Policy can be inspected upon request to one of the contacts listed below.

SJP has a Designated Child Protection Officer who in the event of an incident would as appropriate to the HSE North West Area Social Work Department and the Gardai.
